Dholpur Red Sandstone
Dholpur Red is more popularly known as Agra Red. It got its name from its location and proximity to the world famous Agra City which has the Worlds famous and beautiful “Taj Mahal” which is considered as the Seven Wonders of world. Apart from the Taj Mahal Dholpur Red is also used in Red Fort – New Delhi and Humayu Tomb (Delhi).
The red color has been inculcated only because of the presence of an iron oxide bed which is near the plane. The sandstone color and the contemporary styling is only as a result of reaching out to a consensus. Due to its nature and style this sandstone became one of the widely accepted building stone. It was later on used for construction extensively in building up structures of Agra Fort and Delhi Fort. But from a very long time this sandstone has not shown any weathering effect which is incredible. Due to its soft and subtle nature this sandstone is also now used in stone handicrafts and it is fit for both exterior and interior use.
